  • Beach reads?

Anyone have anything light and fluffy on the bedside table or beach chair?

I have a bunch of fluffy mysteries right now- so fluffy that I can't even remember the names.

It's too taxing to attempt anything that resembles deep thought these days.

    Suggestions?

I love to read Maeve Binchy on the beach.
It's not so fluffy that you feel guilty.

She writes about people living in Ireland (a favorite topic of mine).

I just read Firefly Summer again and liked it very much!

I love the Shoppaholic series but then I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone. Also highly recommend J. Maarten Troost.

So- I found one- it's called "Oh the Glory of it All" and it's the autobiography of Sean Wiley whose parents were "important" in San Francisco in the 70s/80s/90s.

First, it's kind of like reading Gloria Vanderbilt's biography or seeing Mommy Dearest. Just more proof that money doesn't buy you class or compassion.

but, in the way of some of the best true stories like those by Sedaris or Eggers- damned funny, too. IN fact, Dave Eggers is a friend of Sean Wiley's and writes a forward.

Second, it you lived through the 80's as a teen, you will appreciate this story on another level.

and third, if you're a parent, you will find about 1000 things you will think, How could they DO that?

          Re: Beach reads?

Ha ha- beach reads. My mom buys them by the bucketload. Except for her, beach read is a trashy romance. Judith Gould anyone?

(This is what being married to a workaholic doctor for 40+ yrs did for her...)
