  • Harry Potter: Unanswered Questions *INCLUDES SPOILERS*

I thought I'd start a seperate thread to see who else had unanswered questions and/or theories.

The one that I'd hoped would be answered is what the "voice" meant when it boomed "Petunia - remember your last!" Which caused her to say that Harry could indeed stay at Privet Drive. I'd figured that she probably also had some powers but had chosen to deny them, and had been essentially blackmailed into keeping Harry. Remember, she also knew what the Dementors were, and the pensieve scenes of Snape's that Harry saw in book 7 didn't say anything about Dementors.

    I'm sure there are more.

There was that section about her trying to get into Hogwarts when Lily was accepted, I was wondering if that didn't have something to do with what the voice said.
Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

True. I just wish there had been more explanation, and was hoping there was an answer that I'd missed.

I think she must have been eavesdropping when little Sev was telling little Lily about the dementors. As it turns out, I've just started re-reading book 5 (OotP) and when Dudley gets attacked, Petunia says "I heard -- that awful boy -- telling her about them -- years ago."

It goes back to book one. Neville had the sorting hat (can't remember how he got it, but that actually did occur), and he pulled the sword out of the hat, just as Harry did in book one. I believe Dumbledore said something to the effect of "It takes a true Gryffindor to pull that out of the hat."

I still want to know what the booming voice meant when he said "Petunia! Remember your last!" And did it happen in the book? Book 4 I guess. I just loaned it to SueC, so I can't check.

Book 5. Petunia gets a Howler right when Mr. Dursley has decided to kick Harry out after the Dementor attack. I thought it meant something like "Your last..." promise to your sister?

I had wondered that too, and DH reminded me that he got it out of the sorting hat when Voldemort summoned it from the castle at the end and forced it onto Neville's head and set fire to the hat. I don't quite understand how it came out of the hat if they had left it in Gringott's, but I guess that's magic!

Right, I got the book wrong, but I knew the statement came from the Howler. What I'm wondering is what the "last" was. Was it a promise to Lily? Was it an agreement with Dumbledore or Hogwarts?

THAT's how Neville got the hat. Thank you. Even more perfect that Voldemort gave it to him. As for how the sword came out of it when it had been w/the goblin, yes - that's magic. It was Gryffindor's after all - not the goblin's, so I'm sure it would have counted within the realm of what a true Gryffindor could pull out of a hat!

Just hoped that maybe you had OotP on hand if you wanted to refer back to the scene, since Sue has your GoF.

It's still not clear to me what that statement is supposed to mean, but I think it means something like "Your last..." ...promise to Lily. Isn't there a book that gives more detail about what was in Dumbledore's letter to the Dursleys when he left Harry? Is it a scene from the Pensieve in book 6?

You guys are good! I was curious about how Neville got the sword of Gryffindor and that explains it. Thanks Jenn!

                    So my unanswered questions are:

Why did Harry say Voldemort's name when he knew it was being tracked?

Is Snape a pureblood? Because Lily asked if his parents were still fighting and why is dad didn't like magic. So he was half blood?

If he liked Lily so much, why didn't he tell the sorting hat to put him in Gryffindor instead of Slytherin? Perhaps he did and he was ignored?

Is Teddy a werewolf too? Are werewolves still stigmatized? Also, is he being raised by Harry since he's the godfather?

I think Harry was just being angry and made a mistake. I think it was part of his arrogance too.

No, Snape was half-blood. He is the Half-Blood Prince. It explains his parentage in book six. I believe his mother's maiden name was Prince.

Why does Voldemort allow Snape to work with him then?

I am just reading the bit in the HBP where Hermione and Ron and Harry are discussing whether the Prince's half-blood status assures that he's not Dark. Hermione points out that there aren't really THAT many pure-blood wizards, so many Death Eaters are probably half-bloods masquerading as pure-bloods.

Anyway, Voldemort himself is half-blood. Not that that keeps him from frowning upon any but the purest blooded wizards, but still.
