Lipstick Jihad: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America and American in Iran

This is a beautiful, well written coming of age memoir of a first generation Iranian American immigrant who returned to the "mother country" to better understand her own cultural identity. Although this book has taken me an appalling amount of time to finish, I thoroughly enjoyed Moaveni's cultural and personal insights.

I liked this author a lot but I was insanely jealous at how eloquent a writer she was in English when I knew she was also competent in two other languages. GAH--hate her!!!

BTW, our B and N was having a buy two get one free on memoirs.
That is why my reading list is autobiographically heavy right now.

I just finished this. She is a beautiful writer, and I felt like I got a good education on what it feels like to be an Iranian woman. But I did do some skimming- at times I was a little bored. I am excited it is almost pomegrante season here-I love them.

I googled her after I finished and read that she moved back to Iran, is married with a baby son. A day or two before I googled her they left Iran so her husband could go to grad school in Europe.
