  • A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson

This was a fun read, detailing the author's hiking trip along the Appalachain Trail. He is an entertaining writer and also throws in some interesting facts about the areas he hikes through. The Times review says it best: “Short of doing it yourself, the best way of escaping into nature is to read a book like A Walk in the Woods.” I agree -- the book reminded me of hiking and backpacking trips I've taken but from a dry and cozy spot in my house.

I <3 Bill Bryson. I haven't found a single book of his that wasn't highly entertaining (OK, the Shakespeare one was *slightly* less so, but it was still funny in spots and really informative and interesting!).

First one I ran across was "In a Sunburned Country", when I was preparing for our honeymoon trip to Australia; after reading it, I picked up everything else of his I could find.

Another Bryson fan. I haven't read the Australia one. I should get it. Although my stack of winter reads is dangerously tall right now.....
