His latest book, Inherent Vice, is the most readable yet. It more or less follows a linear timeline, and takes place in almost one place. I have to admit that I couldn't get through his last two books - back in grad school I had the time to plod through gravity's rainbow and V., but with my reading times limited to 15 minute stretches grabbed in the bathroom, I can't muster the concentrations. But this book is thoroughly enjoyable, and I recommend it. I'm about halfway through.
