No, this is not a manual .
I enjoyed this light and speedy read by Jennifer Weiner. The book is about (and narrated by) plus-sized Cannie, a late 20's journalist in Philadelphia. She has recently split with her boyfriend and not much later finds that he is writing a column "Good in Bed" in a Cosmopolitan-ish women's magazine. Of course, the articles are about her -- the first is titled "Loving a Larger Woman". So starts her journey of seeing herself in a different light. The novel is very light and humorous. It is also quick -- I read it in about 3 days.

My one *big* gripe with this book is that it didn't seem to make it past a copy editor before being printed. Ok, I'm sure it did but it was full of mistakes. There were a few words missing, which I can forgive. I have a harder time forgiving things like dates/time frames that don't totally match up, inconsistencies in information throughout the book, etc. I don't want to say anything more specific for fear of ruining the plot for someone. Most people can probably overlook these things but to me they really stood out.

My sister just read this book and really enjoyed it. She's mailing it out to me tomorrow- I can't wait to get it! Sounds like it is good summer reading . . . but maybe I'm too optismistic that summer is here? 8)

I'm right in the middle of this book (and I only started it yesterday--it is a quick read!). I'm really enjoying it, but Nellie, I'm noticing the grammatical errors as well! I haven't picked up on any inconsistencies time-wise but after reading your review, I'll probably start looking for them!

I read this in a day while we were at the beach back in March. (before Nikolai...now I read about a sentence and fall asleep)

It's really funny (like snort through your nose funny) and Jennifer Weiner has a movie out now based on one of her other books (the movie with Cameron Diaz and Shirley McClaine)

O.K. I'm going to have to be Debbie Downer here and not give it a rave review. (big surprise ).

Although this book has the earmark of a book I would enjoy (i.e. light chick lit), I am not enjoying it and actually somewhat bored. (This coming from an uber-enthusiastic reader of Bridget Jones and I Don't Know How She Does It). It just is...too fluffy and has already been done. Perhaps her other books are better?

I read her book Little Earthquakes about pregnancy and motherhood. There is even a medical resident husband character. I loved it. It took me a while to get into (I'm not much of a "light chik lit" reader), but I really enjoyed it...sobbed through the last few chapters!!! It was also a quick read.

I also really enjoyed "Little Earthquakes" and "In Her Shoes". I had vetoed "Good In Bed" because I have a 10 year old son with insatiable curiosity and honestly, I just didn't want to deal with explaining it to him if he happened to see it. I would probably enjoy it.....maybe I will pick it up at a used book store if I find myself heading off on a trip without my kids sometime.
