  • Need book ideas to read to 2nd graders

I'm scheduled to read in Quinn's class on Friday (the last day before vacation -- yeah, they'll be tuned in). I can do 1 or 2 books, total of about 20 minutes. Suggestions?

Amelia Bedelia - the weird always thrills kids. If it were a longer period of time, I would suggest Junie B Jones, but those are early chapter books.

Not sure about grade level (may be 3/4) but I loved Sideways Stories from the Wayside School around that age!

Hmmm, 20 minutes won't get you very far. I'm guessing you are supposed to do 1-2 picture books? How about Dr. Seuss's Grinch who stole Christmas? Or I bet you aren't allowed to say Christmas... I don't know. I guess I'd go to the library and look for some winter-themed picture books and go from there.

Don't know the age range, but Jack Kellogg's The Missing Mitten Mystery is a really cute wintry picture book.

My 2nd grader and his friends loooooove the "Diary of a Whimpy Kid" books!

oh - I hate the Diary of a Wimpy kids books (yes, my kids love them, but I won't allow them). My kids parrot the snotty brats in there b/c they think they live in a sitcom or book about snotty kids.

The teacher approved The Grinch, so we're going with it.
