  • The Invention of Hugo Cabret

I took Caleb to the library the other day and was helping him pick out books. I was looking at the Newberry winners (I picked Island of the Blue Dolphins for myself) and noticed this huge Gone With the Wind thick book in the Caldecott winners section. Ummm, not that many 500 page picture books out there.

It is the story of a young boy in Paris in the 1930's told via pictures and text. Fantastic story line, but definitely for slightly older kids, ages 8+ if they are strong readers. The story can be a bit dark in places, but has a very happy ending.

I haven't read the book, but "Hugo", a movie based on the book, will be out at Thanksgiving of this year. They showed a trailer for it during the previews for Harry Potter 7 Part 2. It looks really good, here's the IMDb link for who is going to be in the movie and links to the trailers that are out there so far: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970179/.
