The Best Democracy Money Can Buy: The Truth About Corporate Cons, Globalization and High-Finance Fraudsters
by Greg Palast
Everyone MUST go out and buy this book. It is an absolutely fascinating look at politics and big business. Greg Palast is an American living abroad in England. I have to admit that he does start out his first chapter with the Florida election and moves beyond the myth of the hanging chads to the real issue...so it starts off as a book that is a bit harder on the republicans.
BUT...he ends up delving into the political hoo-has of Clinton, Gore, etc in later chapters and really evens things out in terms of his criticisms of our government and the corporations that run it. It is a great read...I just devoured it. It's so full of information though that it will require going back and re-reading.
The only down-side to the book is that you become so disgusted with the realization that US corporations, the World Bank (51% owned by the US) and European corporations basically run the world.
It all feels a bit overwhelming because you begin to realize that there is indeed little that can be done to stop this......
Awesome book though!
