  • Under the Tuscan Sun

Just finished this book--I enjoyed it and it really makes me want to go to Italy! The author really gives you a feel for the way of life over there, with lots of references to the food, the landscape, and the character of the inhabitants. I read a big chunck of it while I was stranded on a plane and starving and all of the references to the wonderful Italian food made my mouth water! I haven't seen the movie yet (wanted to finish the book since its usually much better than the movie), so I can't compare it to that, but I do highly recommend the book!

I read this a few years ago and really liked it. Made me want to cash it all in and move abroad -- but I don't think I would have been able to buy a villa in Tuscany.

Yeah, I want to visit there, but I didn't envy all of the work they had to do to their home. We live in a "fixer upper" that was built in 1921--I can't imagine remodeling something that was built hundreds of years ago!!!

I saw this movie when it first came out, and I'm about 1/3 of the way through this book right now!

The movie is based on the book only verrrry loosely. In the movie the main character is recently divorced and moves to Tuscany to start over. The remodeling of the villa is sort of the backdrop for her healing and learning to stand on her own two feet and becoming empowered, etc.--total chick flick, but well worth seeing because the entire Tuscan situation described in the book is beautifully shot in the movie. You can practially feel the sun.

No wonder I kept expecting for her and Ed to break up throughout the whole book--I must have gotten that from the movie preview!
