  • Book Club: The Goldfinch.

So this is how tech savvy I am. I have the Kindle app on the IPAD but can't figure out how to download books.

Go on the web to Amazon.com and buy your Kindle book there. You'll have the option of sending the book to the Kindle app associated with your account. Does that help?

Side note: I had totally forgotten that I'd purchased The Goldfinch when it was one of the Kindle Daily Deals. Am I wrong in thinking that Kindle's have the ability to loan books to another Kindle user? If so, that's another option for sharing books with those who haven't been able to buy it or get it from their library.

Some kindle books can be lent out.

Thanks HoW, I just read that on amazons website. So of course The Goldfinch is one that can't be lent out.

BTW, I'm about 25% through the Goldfinch. It's facinating.

So spoiled by instant gratification! I'd really like to just buy it on Kindle but did offer to get a physical copy to send out to others..

I just started reading it and like it so far. The description of the art exhibition was so vivid I couldn't sleep after reading it, kept thinking of ideas for paintings, colors etc. I haven't painted or done anything artsy in months and I'm really missing it. I think I'm going to have to find time for it now...

Me too, MrsC. All of the scenes detailing that day with his mother I found to be really vivid and interesting, though very disturbed by the aftermath of the "event" and his time with the old man (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers!). I am really enjoying it.

                    Ugh, yes!
It reminds me very much of Tracy Chevaliers writing....one of my favorite authors.

What's interesting to me is that the plot unfolds pretty slowly after that yet the book is totally engrossing. She really takes her time to describe his surroundings so vividly that you really get a tactile sense of his environment.

I'm really getting a sense of that, MrsK, and was thinking about that earlier as I read a few pages over lunch. He's just now with the Barbours and is embarking on figuring out the meaning behind "Hobart and Blackwell", yet I don't feel like it's dragging.

Totally agree. Typically I put down books that are slow but this one still has me going.

I'm debating on whether or not to buy the Kindle version or try to find it when we get back home. Anything I buy on Kindle, however, goes on my children's device as well. Is there anything I wouldn't want them to read in this book? I'm not worried about my nearly 19 and 17 year olds but rather my 12 year old daughter.

It's not porn or anything like that but has adult themes.
