  • Sister of My Heart - Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

Set in Calcutta, this novel follows 2 cousins, who are as close as sisters could be. They grow up together in the same house, raised by their mothers and aunt, and later are separated from each other as they fulfill their duty and begin new lives with their husbands. Surprises, secrets, and hardships that threaten the bond between the sisters and the reputation of their family, but ultimately, no love is stronger than theirs.

I couldn't put the book down. It is beautifully written and the characters are so vivid. It's old fashioned story-telling rich with imagery and the superstitions of India.

Sounds like a good one--I'll put it on my list!

I read this book and LOVED it. I also read Mistress of Spices by her which was possibly even better. I read the sequel to Sister of My heart and it wasnt as good.

I was about to look for the sequel because I loved the characters so much-- should I skip it? What's Mistress of Spices about?
