  • The Bean Trees

    by Barbara Kingsolver.
I just finished this book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It follows a young woman who leaves her rural Kentucky town and heads West--she ends up in Arizona where she creates a new life for herself. I really love reading books that portray women with strength and courage and the Taylor Greer (the main character) epitomizes this.

I loved that book! It's been so long since I've read it that I forgot most of the story line. I couldn't part with it; I think it's still on my bookshelf.

Have you read anything by Louise Erdrich? Love Medicine is one of my favorites.

Yep, a great read. I used to teach it to my high school students and even the boys got into it!!

If you like that book read "Animal Dreams" also by Kingsolver. I think that one is my favorite but would have to put more thought into it to say for sure!

I like (and also taught so I have a special affection for) Louise Erdrich as well.

Anyone ever read The Power of One? I think it's one of my all time favorite novels. In my top 5 anyway.

I LOVE reading about other cultures!!!
