This is a book that is difficult to put down, and will leave you a little shell-shocked. Philip Roth is just such an unbelievably GOOD writer - the book is such a joy to read. But the subject matter is somewhat disturbing - you may have read about it in reviews.
It deals with the election of 1940, and postulates that Charles Lindbergh defeats FDR for the presidency on an anti-war platform. What follows is a pro-nazi administration starting to "reabsorb" the Jews into the general population. The story is told through the eyes of a seven year-old boy growing up in Newark NJ.
I had to wait 2 months to get this book through my library, but it was well worth the wait.
