Freakonomics- Steven Levitt

This is a fascinating read. I was number 147 on the wait list at the library but I couldn't wait. I rented it from the library for .25 a day and was finished after one night. Seriously, I defy you to put this book down.

I must warn, however, that some of the author's conclusions may make you uncomfortable. I think that its Chapter 3 wherein he shows a statistical correlation between the effect of Roe v. Wade and the precipitous drop in crime during the nineties. Further, Levitt is the economist who showed that, statistically speaking, swimming pools pose a larger threat to our little ones than weapons.

Yup, some of his findings are unsettling. Pick it up and enjoy his observations.

I've been wanting to read this. I'm hoping that my friend who is reading this will be done by Sunday (when I see her) and not had a chance to pass it along to someone else.

I agree, it is a quick and very interesting read. I actually bought it for DH who wanted to read it, but stole it from him and finished it in a couple of days. The logic and analyses are fascinating, but some of the theories can definitely offend so just be prepared.

I have not read the book (I am currently burried in the Cider House Rules) but I love the website a lot!

I read it a few months ago and you're right, I could not put it down. It was absolutely fascinating. I loved how it made Economics accessible to the public and it made me wish I had Econ profesors like the authors. Now that would've been interesting.
