  • Hope Dies Last--Studs Terkel

This is Terkel's most recent compilation of various people's life stories on the topic of hope for this country's future, society as a whole, and each individual. (Previous works encompassed the topics of death, working, etc.)

I *really* needed to read this at this point in my life. Either the world IS going to hell in a handbasket or there is a lot of fearmongering going on out there. Either way, it was cool to see how these individuals faced great hardship: abuse, the depression, WWI and II, overt racism, horrible labor conditions, etc. This is the story of how these individuals effectuated change for the better in the face of great adversity. Hope definitely resides within these life stories.

A great pick up, put down type of book because most of the interviews span only a few pages. If you're in need of some hope and optimism, pick it up!

It sounds interesting! I could use a pick-me-up. I read Stud Terkel in undergrad and liked him.
