This is the first book written by Hunter S. Thompson way back in the early days. Freaking hilarious, too. It's the story of a downtrodden journalist who takes a job in Puerto Rico. You can feel the steamy heat and smell the sweaty masses with his discriptions.

A fanstastic, fun and quick read if you want to get a feel for Gonzo before he was Gonzo.

Thanks for the pointer! I read most all of his other stuff in the early 90s, and I never knew about this one!
My favorite story is about how he ran for mayor of Aspen on the platform of resurfacing all the paved streets with sod, and turning all the cops into bicycle repairmen, and then renaming the town "Fat City" to discourage tourists. And he almost won!
