  • David Sedaris

I'm currently nearing the end of Naked and I read Me Talk Pretty One Day about 3 weeks ago - love love love them!!! David Sedaris is so funny and witty and I get the same feelings as I got when I used to read J.D. Salinger or Kerouac.

Anyone else a David Sedaris fan??

I love David Sedaris. I didn't like his Dress Yourself in.... But loved Me Talk Pretty One Day--perhaps because I've lived abroad and teach German right now. There's a funny story called "The Big One." I'm not sure which collection it's in though. Of course I'm a big kid that way--love bodily fluids jokes.

Never read him, but sounds intriguing! I'll check it out - thanks for the pointer.

I think you would like it, Fluff.

I really enjoy his voice and the way he relates his stories. Books on CD usually aren't an option I am interested in, but I would consider listening to his books. Hmmm...except that I couldn't with my kids in the car. Never mind.

I have read two with Me Talk Pretty One Day being a favorite.

Love him!! Dress Your Family in Denim and Corduroy is also very funny!

Another David Sedaris fan. I like his sick sense of humor. Need to get more of his books.

I've been reading "me talk pretty one day" when I can snatch some alone time in the bathroom. It's ok - some parts make me laugh. Some of his reflections on supposedly "normal" families and situations are pretty insightful.
He kind of reminds me of a tame version of Augusten Burroughs.

Try the new one...after reading "denim" "talk" was a bit disappointing.

I just finished Me Talk Pretty One Day, I thought it was great. I actually laughed out loud at a couple of points (books don't usually make me do that!), and still laugh to myself when thinking about them. I'm reading Dress Your Family... next.

You can hear him on NPR. He often reads his essays on This American Life. I think he is hilarious!

I posted a link to it in the "Mood Makeovers" forum. It's still on This American Life's website.

I just finished Possible Side Effects and it's so similar to Me Talk Pretty One Day. Makes me wonder if all dysfunctional and cuckoo NYers have Southern roots.

What is wrong with me? I've tried Sedaris twice now because he is a lot of peoples' "must read" author. Have I lived in Minnesota so long that my humor is warped now?

I think he is too disjointed. Would I like his sister better?
