  • Water for Elephants

Now I usually thumb my nose and say "pshaw" at the books my wife borrows from the library, but she convinced me to give this one a try, and it was a really nice read! Well written, and apparently well researched, and just a nice story all around.

Oh wow, I thought this was a *FANTASTIC* book. I had such a hard time putting it down, I finished it in a couple of days. It's one of those books (for me) where I want so badly to know what happens that I end up skipping ahead on the page to find out and then have to force myself to go back and read what I skipped while at the same time not wanting to finish because I don't want it to end. (Ok, that probably sounded kinda weird...)

Anyway, I thought it was really well-written and the details of Depression-era circus life were SO interesting. Really, really good book.

My neighbor just passed it on to me. I'm not starting anything until my HP arrives tomorrow, but I'm glad to know it's worthwhile.

I started it yesterday in the waiting room at the doc's office, and finished it this afternoon. Really well written, very entertaining.

I kept wanting not to like the crotchety old Jacob - and I love how it ended.

Ohhhhh, this was so good and is well written with good pacing. I just finished it last night. Like migirl, I sometimes skip ahead a few pages to see what happens and I did that with this book too. After a few chapters I liked the old Jacob and how the story ended.

It's stated above but the plot of the book involves a depression-era circus and a young man who unexpectedly joins after the unexpected death of his parents.

I read it a month or so ago. Great book! Easy read. I was so sad when it was over!

This is a quick and easy read set against the unusual backdrop of a depression era circus. The characters were well drawn, including secondary characters like a dwarf and the master of events. It had a quick, enjoyable pace. Of note, this book has some graphic sex scenes (not complaining, just wasn't expecting them).

I know this thread has been "dead" awhile, but I just found it and wanted to add how much I **LOVED** this book! What a fantastic ending! Has anyone read the author's other book?

DrK and I both read this during the plane trips to/from our honeymoon. He doesn't read for pleasure but after the intro he was hooked.

SPOILER ALERT: I was so bothered by what happened to Walter. I was upset for days. He must have felt so betrayed and angry.
