  • The Holiday

The Holiday was a fantastic movie, and I highly recommend it. It was funny and sweet and was deeper than you expect it to be. Please go see it and then let me know what you think!

We saw this and liked it quite a bit. I thought it was great how they paired the couples so that each couple had a strong actor in it. I really loved the scenes in England, too. And I thought Jude Law was very sexy, although I had never thought much of him before.

We're halfway through the movie. Dh has a bedtime and I had to pull the plug and get him to go to sleep!

I don't like that the gal Cameron Diaz plays sleeps with a guy on her FIRST NIGHT abroad. I wanted to see her unattached and actually leading us to believe that women don't need men to be happy. I know it's a romantic comedy and I shouldn't be upset about the lack of backbones in these women.

We'll see how the rest of it goes.

We finished the movie last night and listened to the writer/director try to convince me that the girls are actually strong characters who find themselves.

A fun movie. A bit long at a few minutes over 2 hours.

I saw this movie last night and didn't like it. Normally, I really enjoy chick flicks, but I felt this one was too long, too cliched, and had an annoying extraneous plot line (Iris and the old man). This movie was 2 h. and 15 min., approx., and it definitely felt that long. I also felt like Kate Winslet's character's obsession with her love interest didn't make much sense. It didn't seem very believable.

I also agree with what you said, Alison, about Cameron Diaz's character. She just meets him and 20 minutes later suggests that they have sex. Come on.

Overall, I would only give this movie 2 out of 5 stars.

How so? I didn't really find it deep.

Just came in the mail today- I'll report back once it's watched.

I liked it a lot. In fact I bawled my way through most of it.

Jude Law is hot and I'm sorry, so is Jack Black. You know you would have one insane date with Jack Black.

the sleeping with Jude Law thing? Are you kidding? Hell, I'd have been nekked sooner than that.

PS- I waited a more circumspect 2 hours before hopping in the sack with my husband the day I met him. We ended up exactly like them- holed up together for an entire weekend. I'm in no position to judge.

I'm not going to give anything away but the scene with Cameron Diaz at Jude Law's house...I loved that whole scene...so tender!!!

And speaking of Jude Law...oh my, so hot in this movie! I was so in love with his character.

One of my favorite themes of the movie was the development of the relationship between the old man and Kate Winslet.

Also, I was surprised at the two "women" in Jude Law's life. I wish they'd explained more of the history there.
