We saw this because DH's mother (who is German) recommended it to us, and I have to say I really liked it. It's in German (subtitled in English), and set in mid-80's Eastern Germany. It follows a Stasi officer who is assigned to monitor a playwright/author who is suspected of dissidence (mostly because a high-ranking officer wants the author out of the way so he has clear access to the author's actress girlfriend), and who finds himself becoming sympathetic to the author and his girlfriend. Like most German movies I've seen, it's both very touching and tragic.

We saw this over the weekend and also loved it. Great movie.

For those who saw it, do you think the last line being in English means anything?
