Very sweet. Kept the kids entertained. Nice message. Nothing too scary. No parent dies at the start ...

Not my favorite Pixar movie, but good.

Yep. I wholly agree with the above.

It was harmless and had a nice message.

It doesn't come close to being as good as "Nemo" or "Toy Story" IMO -- but those were pretty darn good!

ITA! We saw it yesterday as well. I only got weirded out by the rats being too realistic a couple of times.

Me too. In the swarming scenes. They got that too right. ICK!

I heard an interview with the director and he said that when he started the rats were too cute in his opinion; not enough of a contrast between Remy and the rest of his family. He had them redesign all of the other rats to be more rat-like.

This was our 2.5-year-old's first movie. He loved it. Spent the first 70 minutes in an oh-my-God-look-how-big-that-TV-is haze. Then spent the rest of it yelling at rats.

But he did great, we went to a 10 a.m. showing just in case, and it got us out to our first movie in almost two years.

I actually thought it was Pixar's most complete "film" and worthy of all the praise it is getting. That's not saying it's my favorite of the bunch, but it was very, very well done.

Thanks for the reviews...I told DH he should take DS1 & DS2 to this, over the weekend.

Just took the kids to this last night.

                Outstanding!

It is so refreshing to get away from the old, stale Disney plots that seem to dominate every children's movie. This was unpredictable as far as the storyline is concerned - and that makes it entertaining for adults as well as children (I'd rather not snore through anymore kids' movies).

The characters were likable, the plot (as mentioned above) was creative, it was pleasant and, of course, had great animation (it is Pixar after all). Nothing scary and my ten year old AND two year old both enjoyed it (wide appeal).

I agree with TR; I loved it. Kyle started crying when it was over, he easily would have sat through another entire viewing. He apparently also pee'd his pants during the movie (a first in 6 months) so he wouldn't have to leave the movie to go to the bathroom.
(of course we found that out after daddy gave him a shoulder ride back to the car. Ew-w-w...)

                    Re: Ratatouille

We saw this movie this evening. I really liked it. The extras on the DVD are great - there's an interview with the movie's animator and Thomas Keller. It was nice to see how the art of cooking and animation really do intersect!

Some of the more realistic rat scenes grossed me out. We've got big ones in Chicago. Some are bigger than designer dogs.

We watched this last night. It's a very cute and entertaining movie. We don't have kids yet, but we found ourselves laughing out loud a few times.

We did go to the movies to see this one. I thought it was way too long. It was "sort of cute" in places, but... Just too long. The kids lost interest, and they never choose the DVD at my mom's house-- I think they remember being bored a the theatre.

DH was a health inspector before med school etc., so he never got past the "rats in the kitchen" problem. Me either, I guess.
