I will for sure watch this with DH because he loves this kind of drama (when a lot of men we know don't) AND he has a thing for Cate.
Annie, would you suggest watching the first one BEFORE the second one?Flynn

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
I haven't seen the second one but given that it has been released so many years after the first one I wouldn't be surprised if it stands on it's own. If know the history of her reign, it's not necessary to see the first one. I visted the home that her mother, Anne Boleyn, grew up in. The first movie is about her coming to power. The second is about her reign which is known as the golden age. Obviously Annie could answer this better than me since she's actaully seen the second one. I can't wait to see this movie. We own the first one, I loved it. Cate is amazing.
Jenn, wanna go out on a date with me?

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
would love to! our 'girls night out' is supposed to be this Friday, but i'm not interested in ANY of the movies that Julia picked. dh has plans on Saturday, so I'd say Friday is fair game for me (wait - gotta check to see if there will be baseball on). we'll talk.

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
I saw them both within the last two weeks.
Very good. I was glad I saw them essentially back to back. I learned a lot and then read more about Elizabeth and what she had to deal with. I might get a biography or two for some light reading now.
Clive Owen was HAWT. DAMN.
He's so much MORE my cup of tea than Joseph Fiennes.
Cate WAS amazing. Fantastic. She Da WO-MAN.Flynn

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
After reading The Other Boylen Girl over Christmas break and then watching both movies over spring break - I am constantly amazed with the way women actually acted at this time in history. I never thought of that time period as being very friendly towards women, but oh my! There were some manipulative, cunning women of power!

Re: Elizabeth: The Golden Age
I loved the original Elizabeth--one of my all-time favs. The second was OK. A lot of facts were played fast and loose. But Cate Blanchett is so amazing, it's worth it!
Besides, ANY retelling of any of the Tudors is better that Showtime's "The Tudors." An amazing soap opera...but gee whiz...major historical inaccuracies--even down to the costume details (which movies usually get pretty close to correct, because they hire specialists who are less plot-incentivized to make mistakes).
...which I overlook to look at the actor who plays Henry VIII...whoo hoo!!
