Horton Hears a Who

DH has been out of town for the last five days -- YEAH there was a decent kids movie I could go to solo!!!


I liked it. There were a few changes so if your child is familiar with the book it is not exactly the same. The Who person Horton hears and communicates with is not a doctor in the movie but the mayor with a large family. His son has a small role unlike the book. There were a few other differences but as my daughter pointed out "Mom you aren't that familiar with Horton Hears a Who" because we don't have the book we just checked it out of the library. YOU DO KNOW Horton Hatches an Egg pretty well though." So I'm no expert but you get the point!

The voices were good! Jim Carey did a nice job and I didn't really dwell on the fact that he was "Horton" other than the very beginning. He's calm and reasonable (unlike in the Grinch IMO).

The vulture is a little scary -- but only for a short time (less than 3 minutes).

It's cute, there is no potty language, it follows the book pretty well, and it has a positive message.

I'd give it a thumbs up (especially if you're on your own with your kids for an extended period of time and the temperature is below 20 degrees ).

I can't wait. We're hitting the theatre when we go back home for spring break. It's half price out there!!!

We just got back from it (day 4 of spring break w/never-ending rain). The kids liked it a lot. I was fine with it - it seemed long though. There are some kids movies I really enjoy (Over the Hedge, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Hoodwinked), and some that are fine and not too annoying, which is where this fits for me. Then there are the "dear god why did we watch that" (like Open Season). Fortunately this one fits in the middle catagory.

We saw it yesterday and even my persnickety 10 year old liked it and that is saying a lot!!

Great movie!

Except for the stupid song at the end it was timeless.

Seriously - it didn't fit AT ALL. Dh and I were looking at each other like WTH??? It was like somebody else took over the writing for the very, very end of the movie. Very odd.

Except for that last little bit it was really a very good movie.

It was....good. It was better than Bee movie but not as good as Toy Story or Over the Hedge. A luke warm review from this household.

So...I attempted to bring my 2 year old. This was his first movie theater experience...and his last for another year (at least).

We got there, we were excited, we ate popcorn, the movie started, DS started scaling the seats in a stadium theater, he continued to repeatedly get stuck in the seats, he yelled "HELLO!" to every person entering and exiting the theater, we left.

The 23 minutes of the movie that we did see (by "see" I mean we were in the theater, not necessarily watching...) seemed great.

My bad, I guess. He's too little.

my sister made the same mistake w/ my little ones once...the theater Mgr was cool about it and refunded her the ticket $ apparently this happens quite a bit!!

My mom and I took 6 kids to the theatre to see this movie. It worked out great. It held everyone's attention. Our youngest was Luke (3.5 y.o.) and his cuz who does not sit well thru anything (she's 4) and even she made it to the very end. The movie isn't too long, it moves along well, and it was a good outing for the kiddos.

Ironically, when the song started--- the one that TR mentioned--- she sat back down and started to watch again. :huh: I'm not sure if the song would have struck me as so wierd had I not paid attention to TR's post... It was kind of like an injection of "Happy Feet" at the end of a pretty good, straight Suess movie. They didn't need it, but whatever.

I can't ever say I "love" an animated film except for maybe the Toy Story movies, and Shrek. Other than that, I'm happy if my kids watch it and are entertained. If I get bored, which I usually do, it doesn't bother me a whole lot.
