  • The Squid and the Whale

    We watched this last night.

The cast is great. It is the story of a married couple going through an acrimonious divorce. It follows how their two young boys deal with the split.

Dh was not happy with this movie choice. I think you've got to keep an open mind when watching films, but must admit that I was not expecting to be as uncomfortable with some of the scenes as I found myself.

Not one to watch with kids in the room.

I saw that a while ago. It is good. I remember the same thing -- feeling uncomfortable by the awkwardness and uneasiness of some of the scenes.

I really enjoyed it. DH & I watched it together. The "akwardness" just made it feel that more authentic.

        ITA.

I think it was based on the author's (screenwriter?) childhood.

I agree - awkward and being able to elicit a reaction from an audience is a good thing.

Dh and I talked about the movie afterwards. He doesn't like the artsy fartsy stuff that I pick out, and told me that this was one of the worst movies I had ever rented. I was thinking "I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry" was the worst.

And you know? I am starting to really dislike Adam Sandler. How many Jewfro and crude homosexual jokes can you make....?

I agree that this one was really well done but I wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it per se.

What i enjoyed about it was that it was so real. They weren't afraid to show the side of life, that so many experience but keep hush hush about. I thought the child actors did a fantastic job. I am big fan of both Laura Linny and Jeff Daniels.

ETA I here ya on Adam Sandler...I wish he do more dramatic roles...I really liked l Punch-Drunk Love
