    Twilight

    Okay, first of all, I have not read the books. My 11 yr old DD has been obsessed with them reading wach one in only a couple of hours. We bought tickets for her her friend and I last week online for the opening night 7:15 showing in Columbus. Ther were 20 showings of this movie yesterday and each was sold out at that theater.

    You would not believe it but 3/4 of the people there were wearing Twilight shirts, my DD and friend included. I have never heard so much screaming before, during, and after a movie in all my 40 years. It was hilarious, and many grown women in the audience. The movie itself was good-not great, but enough to draw me in and make me want to read the other books. Robert Pattinson totally makes the movie what it is.

    I couldn't get over all the hype on NPR about this week!! Again, another pop-cultural fad that I just won't be a part of.

      The books: I loved them, albeit occasionally they had cheesy lines.
      The movie: I too have never seen so many screaming teenage girls IN MY LIFE. And I once was a teenage girl. I don't think I even screamed that much as a teenager...
      Truth be told? The movie sucked. Bad acting, low budget, probably bad directing. It waned a lot. I was very disappointed. If they do more movies, they need a bigger budget and a better director. I doubt they'll replace the main actors.

      Twilight is not, nor ever has been, dark and sexually deviant.

      Meyer actually ENCOURAGES abstinence until marriage, as depicted in the relationship between Edward and Bella. At least that's something...

        I read the first book since both my nieces insisted they were must reads. I ended up really enjoying the book so I got the second one immeadiately and I'm about 1/3 of the way through it and it's definitely not nearly as good as the first one so far. I'm planning to go see the movie next week and will post an update then about it. Bummer that it's not getting great reviews so far, I had high expectations. :bummer:

          The movie finally got to the dollar movies so we went to see it this weekend. I have to say it deserved all the horrible reviews it got. I spent most of the movie in pure frustration because it did absolutely zero justice to the book. I get that the movies never measure up to the book, but this just did a complete disservice.

          I will end up seeing the next one, but I really hope they get their act together. I was surprised Meyer actually signed off on this. Does she not get a say once the rights are sold? I'm not sure how that works. :huh:

          ETA: I'm glad I didn't pay full price to see it.

            I netflixed this movie and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

            I've read all the books so I am wondering if I hadn't, would think it was okay -- probably not because it was too short and left some KEY points out of the flick. I also thought the ending (WARNING SPOILER) was silly --- they basically didn't end anything and it was a complete T up for the next movie/book. Poor.


            I thought the casting and acting was fine. I could "see" where they were going with things. I mainly had issues with the script.

            I think this series is above average but when compared to HP in both print and now in movies it falls extremely short. If HP didn't exist (perish the thought) it likely would seem above average.

            Just my two cents.

              What *I* don't get (bearing in mind I have neither read the books nor seen the movie) is women MY age mooning over "Edward." What is he, 18 or 19? Good gravy, ladies, you're old enough to be his MOTHER!

              That said, I have so little free time to read or see movies that I doubt I'll spend it on this series.

                But, I am not his mother That's what makes it so much fun. It's ok to have a little cougar in you

                    As enjoyable as the books were, the movie is a huge disappointment. It was only bearable because I enjoyed the novel so much.

                    Nobody does unrequieted love like Stepanie Meyer.

                      As long as we're revealing our cougar preferences, all I have to say is Taylor Lautner, hubba, hubba. I just googled him and he is 17. not.even.legal. :thud:

                      I'm sorry to be disagreeable in an otherwise fun thread, but Robert Pattinson is a tad too effiminate for me, ironic because I prefered the "Edward" character over the "Jacob" character in the books.

                      O.K. I have spent an embarrassing amount of time analyzing this adolescent fantasy series. Carry on.
