  • Spirited Away

My bf and I watched this last night and I thought it was great. There are some parts that may be a bit scary for little kids, but then again, I'm not totally in touch with what scares kids! The characters are likeable and the story is a classic of love, friendship, adventure and learning strength in yourself and family. It takes you to a fantasy/magic realm and some of the characters are really cute! Definitely check it out.

We rented this last night and LOVED it!!! I'm going to buy the soundtrack so I can listen to the music while I cook. I think kids would like it a lot, and it's got some depth to it that grownups respond to as well. Highly recommended.

I think this was easily one of the best movies of last year. Really amazing.

We watched this movie last night and I thought it was fantastic. I really don't know a lot about animation and that sort of thing, but the scenery was incredible. I can't remember where I heard this (at the beginning of the DVD?) but I think the guy who did this drew a lot of the scenes by hand. 8O Just amazing to think about as you watch the movie. I really liked the story too because it was so intriguing and more complex than what you usually find with a "cartoon."
This movie was definitely too scary for our 3 year old but I think that an older child (and one less easily scared by movies) would like it. [/u]

A more kid friendly film by the same makers is My Neighbor Totoro.

I am a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's films. and have Spritied Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky. Have seen Kiki's Delivery Service, which is also probably better for small ones. Princess Mononoke is probably more along a pg13 rating, its pretty violent.

Here is a link to a site with info on his films.
