  • What is your favorite "classic" movie?

And if one of you youngsters lists anything by John Hughes I'm going to crawl through the screen and throttle you.

I'm talking Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn ... that kind of classic. I've never watched much of the "old" films (Gone With the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Funny Girl are the only ones that come to mind), but we just signed up for Netflix, and it looks like I can stream LOTS of old films.

One of my favs is North by Northwest; Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, great from start to finish. Of course Rebel Without a Cause is not to be missed. This is fun, I'll have to think of other great movies!

ETA: The John Hughes comment is classic Jenn, LOL!

ETA again: Oh, and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and Psycho too!!!

    And Singin' in the Rain!

I should have said I've seen (and adore) the Sound of Music. For some reason that doesn't fall into "old" in my head. We're on the right track,, though.

Oh! Oh! And the Audrey Hepburn My Fair Lady. I love the scene at the races.

Casablanca is my favorite classic. My friends are always surprised at how good it is when I make them watch it. I'm also a sucker for Audrey Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.

Two that I haven't seen listed here are Harvey and 12 Angry Men. DH and I went on an Alfred Hitchcock streak and liked a lot of his films. I would start with the AMC list of 100 greatest films and see what sounds good from there. I think you might have to register for the site, but it's free.

Enjoy! I love classic movies because they've already been screened - you know they're going to be good!

I'm a big fan of the Spencer Tracey and Kathryn Hepburn films. I love Adam's Rib and Woman of the Year. Vertigo is my favorite Hitchcock, I think. I also like The Man Who Knew Too Much. His Girl Friday, also great. Sunset Boulevard is worth it. Dail M for Murder....and Witness for the Prosecution. Obviously, I"m a big fan of black and white. My family won't tolerate it but my husband indulges me now and then.

I love Judy Garland--Meet Me in St. Louis and Easter Parade are some of my favorites! I like Singin' in the Rain too.

My ultimate favorites are all the Christmas classics--Holiday Inn, White Christmas, The Bells of St. Marys (well, that isn't really Christmas), but I guess we have a while to go before I can legitimately watch those again!

Oh, and 7 Brides for 7 Brothers--"Bless her beautiful hide, wherever she may be..." What a love song!

Not as classic as those, but I love Starman and Somewhere in Time. For me these were great love stories.
