    Go.

Go as soon as you can.

DO NOT wait to see it on video. Do not take a child younger than 10 either.

Awesome movie- as mindblowing as Star Wars was back in '77. It was so good that at the end the entire movie theatre just sat there stunned.

We've tried twice now to go see this movie & can't manage to get there in time. BUT- based on your recommendation and the fact that Dave never makes the effort to go see a movie, yet has this one, I'll try harder next weekend to see this one.

Thanks for the recommendation. 3 hours long isn't it? Does it seem that long?

      Wendy-

I have to think long and hard about going to a movie that long- my latent adhd makes it very difficult to sit still that long and it didn't bother me in the least. In fact, at the end- I looked at Rick and said "that's it?"

      Fabulous!

We saw it last night. I loved it. I thought the books were incredible, and I'm usually disappointed when a book is made into a movie, but not this time.

I second Jenn's original post. We saw this opening day - and I've now seen it three times (I lost count of how many times Jon has seen it). It is outstanding - and it didn't ruin the books at all - it is EXACTLY what Tolkien fanatics wanted!

Well, we just rented Fellowship of the Rings last night .... Wow! I thought it was incredible and I'm not a big Tolkien fan. I didn't like reading "The Hobbit" much but part of that was probably because I had to read it for Literature in High School and then completely dissect it and look for all the symbolism. I never enjoyed it so ... I put off seeing this movie. That and the fact that it is so long. I thought it was well done! I wouldn't let even my 10- year old see it though. I think it would have given him nightmares! There are some scary ugly creatures in appearance and in spirit! I want to see it again because I know that I missed things!

It's most certainly not for kids under about 12 in my opinion. Although, my husband will probably "accidentally" let Alex see it one day after he's 8.... There's a bit of a disagreement between us of when something becomes appropriate for children's consumption.... sigh....

Well, I just let my older two watch an edited version of it. I fast forwarded through the whole mine segment, a goblin segment, and the end fighting. They were so interested in seeing it and I knew that my oldest loves these kind of stories so I am the one who gave in. They really didn't see any of the scary parts. We actually had a good conversation about the evilness of the ring and why Gandolf (spelling?) knew he had to stay away from it. We talked about the evils in the world now and why it is so important to stay away from it. SO ... that's my lame rationalization for letting them see what they did. My husband is usually the one that let's them see things that I don't think are appropriate until they are older. We have that same disagreement in our house Jennifer!

Anyway... I just went to the library and checked out the third book. I can't stand the suspense and I can't remember what exactly happens!

Wow---I want to respond to so many of your comments.

Robin and Jennifer- We really should have a conversation sometime about our spouses' differences in parental media monitoring sometime. My two year old thinks that the Simpsons are cool. .

We are 1/2 way through this movie and it is awesome! (I can't stay up late and I have a famously small bladder!) I have never read the books but this title just made my reading list. Great flick so far!

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best three books I've read in a very, very, VERY long time. The great thing about the first movie is how true it stays to the first book.

I am reading "The Two Towers" now because I couldn't stand waiting for the next movie. I am half way through it and really enjoying it. It helps having seen the movie first for me because I guess my imagination isn't up to par when I read. So now I really visualize the Orcs, Saluman, Gandalf etc. I wonder what Ents will look like in the next movie?!

The Ents are what Jon and I are on tenterhooks about. I think they are keeping the ents a secret for good reason - it's going to be SO cool with those things! I suddenly feel like a little kid saying that.
