The Importance of Being Earnest

Period Jane Austen piece....

Awesome costumes, beautiful scenery. Light and fluffy for the end of the holiday weekends. Rick went upstairs and killed aliens instead.

However, my beig beef is one that I have frequently- why cast Americans who have to fake horrible British accents (not everyone is Meryl Streep after all) when there are probably thousands of British actresses who would do just as good of a job. Reese Witherspoon did an OK job but it just pissed me off through the whole movie because THAT's what I was paying attention to. OK, so I'm slightly OCD...but we knew that already.

I was reading through old reviews and I had to comment. I deplored this movie...not that it was that bad of a movie, but it ruined the play. Oscar Wilde wrote The Importance of Being Earnest and it is one of my all time favorite plays. If you ever have the chance to read the play or see a production, you will see how this movie from start to finish (actors, directing, setting, music, etc...) completely missed the point and all of the biting satire about "proper" society, which incidentally would still speak to contemporary audiences if the movie wasn't so much about being a "period piece."
