Dumb question...are mp3 players like..ipods? Can you download music onto them from sites like Napster?

Does anyone have one or know about which ones are good, etc?

Yes, they are like iPods. I have an iPod so I don't know much about the others but my husband seemed to like the Dell one before he got his iPod.

I have a green iPod Mini that I loooove! I even named it!

I can download from iTunes or LimeWire or upload songs from cd's. Pretty much everyone I know uses the iPod line so I don't have a lot of other advice on other brands!

Nope. I have one that I use with my Dell laptop. I got the Nano.

I almost got a Sony Mp3 player, but it was actually too small. I was afraid I'd lose it.

I use mine with my Dell laptop as well. I too have the Nano and LOVE it. It holds about 1,000 songs and is small enough to go everywhere I need it to.

DH started out with a plain mp3 player and some free software for loading the songs onto it. Then he got iTunes to use with it. That was pretty useful, he even got it to where he could hook it up to play his music when he taught spinning class. Then he got an iPod shuffle for Christmas and really loved it for the simplicity of design and easy interface with iTunes. Finally he got a full-sized iPod for graduation, and has gotten into podcasts and downloading TV shows, and he's in hog heaven.

I also have an iPod shuffle, but I'm lazy about putting new music on it. I use a Mac and DH has a PC laptop, by the way.

I have a scandisk MP3 player with an FM tuner. I like it because I work out in the morning and I like to watch the today show at the gym...so...this lets me tune into the station that plays the TV. It is too hard to run on a treadmill and read closed captioning. Before this one I had an MP3 player that interfaced with my computer like a USB drive...so it served as both. I kept data files on it as well as music....until DS yanked it out of the computer faster than I could catch and crashed the whole thing

I have a Sony Sonicstage MP3 player. It's really easy to work and stores plenty of songs. DH subscribes to a website called Bearshare. It's much cheaper than most sites and you can download as many songs as you want. Ipod and MP3 are the same thing, ipod is just the brand name for the Apple one.
