all these wedding shows feature some seriously crazy folks...

Can you imagine saying something like "I didn't go over $15K for the dress... and the shoes and everything else are a different budget."

and my midwestern family thought the NJ wedding was crazy...

I watched Platinum Weddings on WE the other night - the bride was quoted saying: "Our original budget was $250,000 and then it kept growing so daddy said spend whatever you want - the wedding is going to end up costing around $500K"

Can you imagine! I thought we spent to much on our wedding.

I absolutely cannot imagine. My wedding, top to bottom, cost less than $4000, and my parents were absolutely livid that it cost that much. They bitched and moaned the entire time and constantly complained that I was costing them a fortune. My dress was used from a thrift shop. The veil came with it for free. I borrowed a ton of stuff. The venue and all the food was 2000 bucks, and that included the cake, the invitations, the music, etc. The church's fee was like $250 which included cleaning. The flowers were less than $300, and the photography was like $600. This was before digital cameras, or I am sure I could have had it done for much cheaper, but c'mon. I did everything as cheaply as I could!

my hat's off to you Heidi!! I would have loved to keep to a budget like that....

Of course, I wanted to elope and DH wanted to have the party. And even though I don't regret it, the $$ in my pocket sure sounds nice.
