  • Is anyone else frustrated by the TV writer's strike?

My husband and I have noticed that the quality of the writing for many of our favorite TV shows (Heroes, Friday Night Lights, etc.) has really gone downhill this past season. To make matters worse, the TV shows we usually watch are going to be in reruns soon because of the Hollywood writer's strike. New filming has been put on hold because of the writers strike, and many of the late night shows have been ad-libbing instead of relying on scripts (SNL is completely on re-runs). Even some of the Democratic presidential candidates may choose not to cross the picket line to attend the California state Democratic debate which is supposed to be on Dec 10 in L.A.

What TV shows are you watching? Have you noticed that the writing was gotten progressively worse since last season? Are you as bothered by it as I am?

I must agree that Tila Tequila and "A Shot at Love" has given my husband and I hours of entertainment...It's so bad, its like watching a car accident happen, I just can't look away! I'm also addicted to reruns of "Project Runway". I'm learning to perfect my "bouncy model runway walk"...

The Amazing Race and that is about it. We're better about keeping up with Netflix now.

Same kind of idea here. We rent the seasons of shows and love it since we can watch an entire season of a show in one weekend w/o commercials. No waiting for next week to find out what the resolution of a cliffhanger!

I'm hoping it's resolved before Pushing Daisies has to shut down. A stoppage like that can kill a new show, and it's really good. I also REALLY miss the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.

That and the The Office. That is about the only TV I watch.

I don't know if the TV writer's strike has anything to do with how weird Heroes is. Even Weeds doesn't seem to be that good anymore. But I wonder if its the way I am watching it now, by episode instead of by season.

I wish they would end the strike. I feel so awful for the crews and their families who probably live paycheck to paycheck.

No, I mean the the camera people and whatnot. The production crews. They didn't have the option. No writers, no actors = nothing to shoot.

Yeah, I agree that the strike is really hurting the crews that work behind the scenes on the shows. Not everyone who works in entertainment is paid a lot of money, a lot of people who run the shows we watch (even the reality TV) are blue collar and get by paycheck to paycheck. There's a lot of people who aren't in the writers guild that had no choice whether to strike or not and their families and incomes are being affected as a result of not having work.

I don't normally come in here, not having a tv and all, but after talking to a friend in LA today I think I'll throw in my hopes that the strike ends soon. He and friends of his are collecting unemployment now. There's just not work to be had. Maybe it seems like they shouldn't strike, I don't know if it will be effective, but like other professions, people do like to get paid for their work. Most of the folks involved are not at the highest end of the $$ or celebrity spectrum.

I do feel for the crew, but I think the production companies are robbing the writers. I think its utterly ridiculous that they don't pay the writers for dvd and internet sales.
