The 100th job was actually w/the Army mechanic squadron. The guys had a good sense of humor and sent Mike scurrying around a lot. But the part I was cackling over was the various montages of the previous 99 jobs, the bloopers, Mike attempting to do math (he's AWFUL but keeps trying), etc. Mike with animals is just beyond funny -- and clearly they have lots of 'dirt' to deal with.

Mike Rowe just nearly made me pee my pants. He was talking about a camera man who'd squeezed into a tight spot, and say he was like some "dirty little gumby on a bender" ....

I don't know why it made me laugh so hard ..

All time favorite show EVER. Mike is my TV boyfriend. So cute, and funny, too.

And I went to college in Olympia, Washington, near where they got the geoducks. My school's mascot? The Fighting Geoducks.

We just watched a couple weeks worth on the TiVo the other day, so I don't know how recent it was, but the cleaning the boiler of that old yacht? Wow. I'm a small person, and I would have freaked out trying to squeeze in there.

Gluing the hillside together had me in stitches; running up and down that hill..and then the coffee cup covered in green stuff. And he was so like a little kid with the cannon on top of the truck.

You're joking. If a grown man (okay - me too) can't keep a straight face when looking at a geoduck, how on earth did high schoolers walk around w/jackets and t-shirts for their "Fighting Geoducks"!? Plus - how does a geoduck fight?? It pees on you??

You're new, so I'll be nice, but Mike Rowe is SO MY t.v. boyfriend. I have THE biggest crush EVER.

                    The Geoduck Fight Song

(words and music by Malcolm Stilson, 1971)

                    Go, Geoducks go,
Through the mud and the sand,
                    let's go.
                    Siphon high, squirt it out,
                    swivel all about,
                    let it all hang out.

                    Go, Geoducks go,
Stretch your necks when the tide
                    is low
                    Siphon high, squirt it out,
                    swivel all about,
                    let it all hang out.

You have GOT to be kidding me with that. Really?

                      Oh dear.

Found this when googling "Fighting Geoducks"

And size matters because despite the geoduck's taste, abundance and economic importance, it is the appearance of the geoduck that produces a certain kind of . . . awe. Curiosity. Wonder. Inadequacy.

                        Men gape. Women swoon.

Well, not swoon, exactly. They actually tend to gasp, snigger, gulp, snort and smirk. Because a geoduck looks like - that is to say it sort of resembles - what we mean here is that it has evolved into a shape reminiscent of . . .

                        You know.

And therein lies our fondness for the beast. Funny name, funny shape, funny squirt. It's funny, like raw oysters.

What is it with mollusks, anyway?

UNTIL RELATIVELY RECENTLY, much of what we knew about geoducks was summed up by "The Gooey Duck Song," a hymn to bivalves penned by Ron Konzak and Jerry Elfendahl:

Well, he hasn't got a front and he hasn't got a back,

He doesn't know Donald and he doesn't go quack,

Digga duck, digga duck, digga digga gooey duck . . .

The Evergreen State College in Olympia, being Evergreen, chose the geoduck as its mascot and adopted the motto Omni Extaris, Latin for "Let it all hang out." There's a granite sculpture of a geoduck in the gym lobby that Athletic Director Pete Steilberg describes as "somewhat phallic" and an official "Fighting Geoducks" fight song: "Go, geoduck, go, siphon high, siphon low . . . "

Most Northwesterners - having learned just how hard it is to dig out a gigantic clam buried two to three feet deep in mud or sand, under water - are content simply to laugh at it.
Whomever convinced Evergreen State College to adopt the Fighting Geoduck as their mascot is getting a very good laugh.

Hee! Yup. I was never involved with sports while there, so I didn't know the song and never saw the sculpture, but you can get all sorts of great geoduck-related merch at the TESC bookstore.

You're new, so I'll be nice, but Mike Rowe is SO MY t.v. boyfriend. I have THE biggest crush EVER.
HA! Dream on. Aren't the rules on TV boyfriends that you're pretty much guaranteed to have to share anyway? I know I'm already sharing Mike with my best friend, even though *I spotted him first*, and even introduced her to the show.

huh ... not on this board, where we've had knock-down drag-out battles over Sting and David Beckham! Sharing ... well, I've got to say I like the spunk from the relative newbie . I'll just pretend we didn't talk about it.

Heh. Y'all can have Sting and Becks, but I've got to lay at least part claim to Mike, sorry. I notice you didn't discover the show till last June; I started watching it religiously last January. Feel free to pretend you have him to yourself, though, if you need to.

Did anyone see tonight's snake episode? I've decided I like Mike best when he's scared. This one & the alligator farm one are by far my two favorites - I just giggle like crazy while he tries to reconcile what he's about to do.
