Hmm... I am going to be the dissenting opinion here. I hated it.

A friend and I were so excited for this show because it looked really funny and I knew Selma Hayek was Executive Producer. I thought that the writing was horrible, the character was bland, the plot was terribly set up and also depressing, it seemed contrived and random and dark. I definitely won't be wasting another hour watching it. My friend didn't like it either. It was like an hour of really bad sketch comedy that makes you depressed the whole time. Wierd, I know, but that's how we felt.

I was a little disappointed in this show, but I really like America Ferrara, who plays Betty (and was in Real Women Have Curves). If this show doesn't work out, I hope we see her in something else.

I addition to that I think she is very beautiful and I hate the fact that glasses and braces plus an average weight makes some one ugly...I know the whole point is don't judge a book by its cover...I stopped watching after about 15 minutes...it was boring.

I agree. I thought she was really pretty on Oprah last week. Why couldn't they just make the show about her, as somewhat normal, instead of so overdone and... wierd? Maybe it would have stood out as more... interesting? believable? touching? identifiable?

I guess on the whole, it seemed like it was just trying too hard instead of being naturally good.

I like this show but I do see that. I think the concept is good and I'm hoping it gets better. And Julie I really like America F. too!

              Me, too!

DH and I just started watching the episodes from the pilot onward. We just finished episode four. I though it was a refreshing change from the stuff already on tv. And, it's so nice to see the stark contrast between the vanity-driven culture and a nice, normal, sweet person. My husband particularly likes her latino family - there are things we see in his own family all the time (and, in him, too!).

Yeah, I'm also a little hooked on this one--still watching it.

I have to say, though, that they seem to want you to hate Wilhemina but I not-so-secretly really think she should have the Editor-in-Chief job. Yes she's evil, but she's been working her way up and sacrificing for decades and actually knows what she's doing . . . and then the boss's slacker, priviledged son gets the job? And we're supposed to root for him? Just because someone's "nice" doesn't make me all in favor of nepotism or anything.

Also, I think it's hypocritical that Betty was hired for her looks! She wasn't the most qualified candidate, Amanda was (although, yeah, sleeping around can hurt your career, Amanda). Betty got hired in because of appearance, which isn't really more right just because she was hired for being ugly instead of for being hot. Another one where I'm sort of like "Am I supposed to be onboard with this?"

Just had to get those off my chest. I'm not onboard with the values of this show but I still find myself watching it.

And I am in total agreement with the love for Hilda and Justin. The dad's good, but his current storyline is lame.

Yep, I'm addicted to this show.

Of course Betty was hired for her looks, Daniel's dad hired her b/c he didn't want Daniel to have an attractive assistant. I think the dynamic with Daniel and his brother/sister is very interesting right now.

Its a good show - maybe too addictive.

I'm still watching it too. It's pretty cheesy but I still like it.
And I agree with you on both those points, Julie. Daniel gets on my nerves, even though he is nice.

But I feel like we're being encouraged to think that that's somehow justice being served, and I can't agree with that, is what I meant to say.
