    Re: OLYMPICS!

i know! WTH? i can't keep my peepers open that long. i tried so HARD! i stayed awake for the men's all-around (gymnastics) until about midnight. and last night, i tried so hard. i love nastia lukin and really wanted to see her. i made it to her balance beam rotation, but what i really wanted to see was the uneven bars. *sigh* i didn't make it....i woke up later to turn the TV off. i saw this morning, she and shawn johnson got gold and silver! how exciting!! i tried watching online, but i don't want to download the crap NBC wants me to. bummer. maybe it will show up on you tube later on. and michael phelps. AMAZING.

The swimming might actually BE earlier in Beijing as well. They toggled back & forth a lot last night. More events to cover in swimming, too, w/all the big names and the heats and such.

            Re: OLYMPICS!

The swimming actually is earlier, they've been talking all week about how the swimmers have had to get up at 5 and 6am to get their bodies ready for their ridiculously early races. I suppose every time there is an olympics there are countries that get things in the middle of the night, this year it just happens to be the USA.

              Re: OLYMPICS!

What is really annoying me is that in Pacific time we don't get anything live, instead they show it late at night here too! Why can't we get it live, a little earlier?
I am also sick of the stupid interviews with random people (not the athletes) and hyping up the "rivalry" between different althetes. It is so cheesy!
You end up watching for a couple of hours and only see less than an hour of actual sports. They had better have decent coverage of the track and field or I will go back to Canada for future Olympics

Wow, we get it live here. I'm surprised CA is not running it live. Our coverage starts at 7:00 and the live stuff (gymnastics and beach volleyball) usually around 9:00-9:30. It does run pretty late but not too bad.

Interestingly, west coast viewers have out paced east coast viewers in the last 6 Olympics, no matter what time the games are aired.
OK well it often says LIVE up in the corner of the screen, but any time they give the time it is only a 12 hour difference!

The swimming was exciting last night.

                  Re: OLYMPICS!

You know, I always just assumed that the LIVE was right, I wasn't paying attention to the actual time.

I am of two minds about the cheesy NBC coverage. On the one hand it's pretty much contrived when they make it out to be this huge rivalry, and it's really obvious and makes you wonder what you're missing while they're hyping this supposed drama. On the other hand, it does work! I made DH stay up and watch men's gymnastics a few nights ago because "The Chinese guy with the awesome stationary rings routine was competing with the fresh-faced American boy who sticks his vaults for individual all-around."

they base the LIVE time on EST. they're just as east coast centric as they are USA-centric.

So I googled Valeri Luiken. (I'm sorry, he's hot) and yup the man with a gold-medal winning daughter is one month younger than me.

                      Jenn

                      (but he's still hot)

By the sounds of things Jenn maybe we'll all be watching your little guy in the Olympics in 12 or 16 years! Maybe then you can meet Luiken!
