Ooooooooh, don't EVEN get me started! LOL.

Seriously, I've had this conversation so many times just the thought of it makes my blood boil. I've come to the conclusion you can't have a debate about college football. You can have an impassioned, angry, and sometimes physical argument, but you can't have a debate .

Plus since I'm just a lowly newbie I'm not going to push anyone's buttons... yet

Actually all you can do about college football right now is debate - there will be no RIGHT answer until there is a playoff!

Right, so if you're trying to determine the best conference, you usually turn to the rankings. And the rankings are based on strength of schedule. So it's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy, no?

Until there's a playoff, more big teams need to play each other during the season. Which none of them want to do because it's so much easier and more lucrative to play cupcake teams and win big.

All of which is a long-winded way to say that I'm excited for our game against Ohio State this weekend. And that I wish we played more SEC schools.

Haha, I hear ya! I will pull for Auburn when we're not playing each other, and I'll TRY to do the same for Bama. But I think this quote from something on ESPN.com will hint as to why it might be difficult

"Now, lots of people dislike coaches. Michigan fans loathe Jim Tressel. Buckeyes can't stand Joe Paterno. Nittany Lions detest Bobby Bowden. Those are normal, acceptable levels of hate.
But LSU fans hate Saban more than store-bought...

Rankings based on strength of schedule? WHAT? Its a bunch of journalist and coaches voting - strength of schedule is a BS number that the BCS computers crunch out. No one has played anyone yet except the handful of top 25 teams that played other top 25 teams last week. It's all subjective. The year KU went 12-1 they didn't even get a chance to play for the national title because of that one loss yet both of the national championship teams also had a loss - its crap and until there is a true playoff it will continue to be crap. At least there is no such crap in basketball!

Well of course it's crap! That's what I was trying to say. The coaches and journalists base their voting on perceptions, and one of the ways they come upon those perceptions is the opposition, and how the opposition is perceived is based on the voting. Hence the self-fulfilling prophecy.

                            O-H-I-O

Buckeye by marriage here. Where I'm from, the NFL rules supreme but all I needed was 1 time in The Shoe to convince me that college football is AWESOME. Given that I'm a huge football fan at any level, it wasn't a hard sell.

DF and I both went to colleges without big time football teams though he played in college on a team that always won their division, it just wasn't a division that made ESPN very often so we're happy to cheer the Buckeyes on.

Apparently the OU v. Idaho State score is 48-0. I don't like not being able to watch the game, though!
