It was brutal, but their pitching was so bad, I doubt they could have gotten anywhere in the playoffs. I'm more concerned about the team the next few years. Most of the players who were mediocre or horrible this year have long term contracts and several of the best are free agents.

Even though the Red Sox are out, I'm looking forward to the playoffs. The Phillies and Yankees have looked a bit vulnerable recently and it would be neat to see teams like Milwaukee or Detroit beat them.

Sorry about your sox, they are my AL team, so i was mildly bummed about their epic collapse, but I am SO excited for the Brewers!!! Literally been waiting my entire life for the Brewers to have a season like this!!!! We are being excused from work early today so we can go to the playoff rally tonight.

That's awesome about your work. We went to a Brewers-Rockies game a few weeks ago. The one the Rockies lost in the 11th inning on a walk-off home run. Not that I'm bitter.

          Anyway, go Yankees.

My little brother is a Sox fan in a house full of Phils fans (not sure how this happened), so he is going to be a PITA for the next few weeks. I'm sure he's being razzed at school today too. And I will give him some crap when I see him this weekend. I do like the Red Sox though, liking the Yankees is NOT an option.

I agree with this assessment, even as a Phils fan. Losing 8 games in a row during the last 2 weeks of the season is not how I wanted to go into the playoffs. The Phils issue is hot-and-cold hitting. The Yankees issue is pitching, especially relief pitching. We shall see what happens in October.

CP, sounds so exciting! Playoff fever is contagious!!

People sure are thrilled for this weekend around here. Honestly, we're not big MLB fans (the Dodgers haven't had a good team in years [DH's team]).

I think it's kind of cool that both coasts are not represented in the playoffs - it's kind of a heartland of america thing.
Though I must admit, I won't watch any of it.

CP, I am temporarily a Brewers fan.

Gut wrenching loss for the Phils. DH and I couldn't really watch it, we knew it was coming. The timing of their hits is horrible and they can't seem to string them together to produce runs. Its very hot and cold. Their leaving the playoffs so soon reiterates a basic sports rule-of-thumb: if you go into the playoffs cold, then your season won't last much longer. If you go into the playoffs hot, regardless of season record, then your season could make it all the way to the finish line.

Curious to see what they do in the offseason. Hoping they keep the majority of their pitching lineup (dumping Lidge, as he gives me PTSD) and get rid of Utley. But hey, now I can just focus on hockey and football!!

As a frustrated Mets fan, I feel no pity for the Phillies.
I do, however sympathize with their fans. Sorry for your loss.

welcome aboard. I'm glad we aren't playing the Phillies. As on and off as they've been recently, they are way better than the Cardinals.

Plus, it's about damn time for us. I've literally been waiting my entire life for this!

Playoff fever is fun. We ended up at the same bar as the most of the bullpen on Friday night. My BF spent the night staring at them, mouth gaped open. I just enjoyed the champagne shower. Haha

Thanks fluff! I feel bad for you guys too - I hope your day comes again soon.

I have more friends who are Phillies and Yankees fans than Mets fans, but man were those few Mets fans happy on Friday night with their two bitter rivals kicked out of the playoffs in the first round.

CP - that is totally awesome! And enjoy playoff fever. It always hits here HARD and it never gets old. I have some great memories from being a crazy fan with playoff fever.
