    Very moving. Brings to my mind two things: (1) No matter the problems that we may have with US health care, it is comical to suggest that our access problems are even remotely similar to those in the other parts of the world. Rural South Africans are just one example of people who literally have no access; and (2) AIDS still kills. In America, most forms of AIDS can be treated in a way that allows the sufferer continued health of a comparably long period of time. It has gotten to where people sometimes say now that "AIDS isn't a death sentence like it used to be." My sister used to do NGO work in the Sudan. That kind of attitude, she said, blinds Westerners to the reality of the scourage for the population of the planet that does not have access to US healthcare. AIDS is a death sentence and an orphan-maker most places.
