  • That's adorable, MrsK! And Liisi, wow - what great neighbors you are!

Today was DD's first birthday! I can't believe it's been a year since she was my not-so-little newborn. We went to a tiny museum here in town this morning, and DH was post call, so he got off in time to come home for lunch. After her afternoon nap, we took one-year pictures and opened presents. Her real party will be this weekend at my parents' house, but hopefully today was fun for her, too!

        • Today, K2 got sick in the car. I was a few blocks from home. K1 had taken off his shoes and socks, I had a car full of groceries, and neither child could be left alone in the house while I cleaned the carseat. Figuring out what to do and what order to do it in was like that old riddle about the fox and the chicken and the bag of grain. Parenting really is a rough gig. BTW, how do I get the stink out of the carseat?

          • Out of the actual plastic part? Hose it down and then spray it from top to bottom with lysol or 409 or something like that and then let it dry.

            Good luck!

              • If its not going to rain tonight I'd park it outside with the windows cracked and febreeze the crap out of the car first.

I feel your pain MrsK! We had a puke incident last week while traveling for Thanksgiving. I cleaned it pretty well that evening and again the day after but the car continued to smell like vomit and cleaning products. Today I spent $70 to have the car professionally detailed. It was worth every penny. They shampooed the carpets and upholstery so the smell is finally gone. It's like having a new car again.

                      • I was just going to post that you need to have it professionally detailed, but bobk beat me to it. Yes, definitely pay to have it detailed; it's really the only way to get that smell out. And, I think kids puking in the car is a rite of passage for parents. I've been there.

                        • Well, DrK and I just spent the better part of the evening cleaning and febreezing and the car is airing out in the garage. Poor kid was so upset. I don't think he's even thrown up before. I was driving and the boys were thrashing around/playing in the back when K2 suddenly began wailing. I thought K1 hit him or took a toy from him. Then the car filled with this awful smell and I heard K1 say, his voice filled with wonder, "hey, you got sometin' all over you" and K2 started wailing even louder. Ugggg! Such bad timing. My mom arrives tomorrow, then DrK leaves town, then the ILs arrive. I don't even have time to get the bumper repaired from my last fender-bender nonetheless have the car detailed.

                          • In keeping with the nasty bodily function theme, today boy dog had a small abscess on his leg that burst and the smell has been making me want to vomit all day, to the point that I skipped lunch and I never miss a meal. I put gauze on it and wrapped it up (which miraculously he hasn't ripped off) but I can still smell it. DH got home and was all "I don't smell anything" then finally, after 2 hours, he gets a whiff and says "Oh that! Eh, that just smells like hospital." My house smells like puss and blood and hospital. Blech.

                            • Today N had black crumbs in her mouth and really seemed to be enjoying a cookie. I said, " did daddy give you a cookie?" And DH said he didn't. And I was like uh huh. Yeah right.

An hour later in mass we found the wood chips in her mouth.

Baking soda for the vomit. I scrubbed car seat straps with a toothbrush and a baking soda paste and it got the smell out.

Today I made carrot top soup. Yep. Soup from the green carrot tops. It was pretty tasty. My mom and I joined an organic farm CSA. We are experimenting with all the new veggies. My mom has been doing most of the cooking because of time. But today was my turn. . I haven't cooked since TG an before that was over a month!!!
