Today I am sad for my ex's family and our girls. Ex's dad is dying from a pretty preventable and survivable form of cancer, but since the man has refused all non-emergency medical care for 30+ years, he's dying. Painfully. While his children watch helplessly.
I mourn for the man I knew who was kind, funny, ornery (in a good natured way), and loving. The angry and confused shell of what currently lives is not him.
I am thankful, however, that he lived long enough to see all three of his kids overcome significant struggles. Two were SEVERE addicts and one has mental health issues that are finally being effectively treated. He got to experience all three of his kids as healthy and productive adults -- a feat I never thought any of us would see.
My PSA: please get your preventative screening tests done in a timely manner.

Today I am going to pick up the settlement check from our moving fiasco - it took several months and a lawyer (free to us, thankfully, but we are going to repay him in some gift cards), but we finally got a fair amount!!Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Yesterday, dd4 was bit by a classmate in preK. It didn't break her skin thankfully but she felt really bad about it. It's hard to understand that kind of aggression for a 4 year old, especially when she thinks everyone is her friend. I'm irritated that we had to be the one the bring it up to the teacher. Seems they have an epidemic this year (6 incidents already). The biter is sent home immediately and we told dd if it happens again to say, "no biting, that hurts!" Will be interesting to see how this progresses....Tara

Meet Jake, he's a 1.5 yr old tricolor Aussie mix. He's getting used to his environment today and seems to be very people-focused. We thought we were going to take him on Tues or Wednesday, but they were ready to leave him today. The picture doesn't really do him justice, but he keeps wanting to be right.by.my.side, so pictures are a little hard to get.Last edited by scrub-jay; 10-19-2013, 02:29 PM.Wife to PGY4 & Mother of 3.
