Question. Long story short as of yesterday DH is without health insurance. We had been planning to get on the plan through his hospital (parents just dropped him from their plan! He's 30!) and then 4 days ago the woman in the office "realized" dropping my private insurance didn't qualify as "loss of coverage" and we'd have to pay after tax rates (this is something we thought we covered when he started residency in July). I was able to quick un-cancel my private insurance but he's going to have to fill out an application to get on my plan. He had yesterday off so I told him a couple days ago he'd have to fill out the application yesterday. But then at a New Years party he declared he may just go without insurance for awhile ( "I'm a fucking doctor!" ) and never filled out the application.
There's been a lot of talk recently about codependency. Would it be codependent for me to just go ahead and do it for him? Would that be enabling him? Should I just let him be a big boy and make his own decisions?

Would his parents help you kick him in the ass about this? Yes, they kicked him off their policy, but not with the understanding that he'd just go without, surely? Surely they're smarter than that?Sandy

I may be crazy, but I seem to remember that having health insurance is required for DH under the terms of his contract (residency) with the hospital. As in, he doesn't have to have health coverage from them, but he does have to have it from some company. Is that the case for your DH?
I agree with others, he needs a kick in the ass.

Yes. Definitely a smack to the head for that one.
Remind him he won't think highly of this decision in twenty years when he's unable to collect his own payment from some patient that thought they wouldn't get sick and chose to not buy insurance.

Gahh!! So many high hopes for this evening (i.e. snarky remarks) but he took a "nap" at 7:15 and I fear will not be getting up.
my QUESTION however is am I being codependent by filling out his health insurance application?
I literally woke up this morning thinking "OK, this is my last day off, I have to fill out that application." and then read a whole thread about codependency and started reexamining my life....
