Tonight we had some friends over for a luau! It was a murder mystery party and we had a blast! I told everyone to bring an island dish and to dress festive....they did! We had a spinach dip in a Hawaiian Sweet Bread bowl, fruit salsa (mango, pineapple and papaya) and a fruit salad for appetizers. We had chicken shrimp and veggie ka-bobs (marinated in pineapple juice), pineapple chicken, a vegan coleslaw, sweet and sour veggies, corn on the cob, and pasta salad. Then chocolate covered pound cake and strawberry sandwiches for dessert. I made Mai Tais and we played the murder mystery game.
Everyone took a part and acted out the scenes. We laughed and had a great time! It was a "Murder ala carte!" There are also "how to host a murder" games. We've done one before and had a great time too. The games support from 3-4 couples and they last about 2 hours of playing time, of course you spend about an hour before hand hanging out and an hour after wards talking about the game etc.
If you all find the time, I recommend it. They are easy to make potluck, they come with recipes and they are themed to make decorations and music easy. The only downside is once you play it, you know the killer and can't play it again. You can probably pass them around the hospital to the other couple groups though...the girl we get them from gets them from her sisters who pass them around.
And they are a good excuse to eat bad and get drunk!
