When you were a child, was there ever a present you really, really wanted and were disappointed not to get?

On the other hand, was there a present you wanted and didn't think you'd get but ended up getting it?

We used to get the sears or jc penny catalog before Christmas and I would spend hours looking through it. I think I was disappointed when I didn't get "real" barbies. There also was this food catalog that had all kinds of baskets with cheeses, chocolates and candies in..everything looked so good, never got any of that. http://www.figis.com/ That was a good catalog.

The three gifts I remember getting most excited for were a cabbage patch doll, a boombox, and a phone in my room for my birthday.

As a kid, my sister, brother and I would literally wear out the JCPenny catalog!!

I don't remember ever wanting something terribly bad. Although, one year we were very surprised when my brother got a helmet, my sister got a key and I got an owner's manual for a four-wheeler! We rode that poor thing to death!!

One year I really wanted a pear necklace (I wasn't familiar with ZZ Top yet) and I got one--I loved it! I was only 8 or 9 so I'm not sure why I wanted one so badly.
I also remember wanting a Cabbage Patch Doll the year people were going nuts trying to buy them. My sister each got a preemie which I believe my mom still has at her house.
I don't remember any major disappointments. My parents weren't extravagent but if there was something we desperately wanted for Christmas they usually saw that we got it and we knew enough not to ask for anything too expensive.
        Awake is the new sleep!

I never got a Barbie Dream House (way too much money for a toy) and I'm still disappointed.
