I grew up 20 miles from WI, so only about half of these apply to me .

The only one I had no clue about was "FIB go home" (???) but google soon explained why--cheeseheads probably wouldn't be saying that to our faces. I liked it better when I naively thought they just called us flatlanders.

On a related note, I recently heard a debate about the pronunciation of Pabst Blue Ribbon--whether it was "paps" or "pabs." To which I say Huh? I'm pretty sure I've always pronounced every letter of that word--am I alone?

I didn't know what FIB was either!

I'm not a Wisconsinite (?), but seeing as how my MIL lives there now, I feel a certain kinship.

I've always heard Pabst with all the letters pronounced.

I always said it pronouncing all the consonants.
"Paps" reminds me too much of that lovely exam we get to have every year!

            Just a wondering, though...

Do people really think there is a distinct Michigan accent? I think I (and most everyone I know around here) speak pretty 'normally,' but I've heard people make reference to the Michigan accent before.

Yes, Jane, as a native on Indiana, I would say that there is DEFINITELY a Michigan accent. In fact, two of the doctors stationed here with my husband are from Michigan, and I totally called it from just hearing them talk, before I knew where they were from.

I think this one is great. I personally don't landscape with statues, but I enjoy very much riding past houses with cows, deer, squirrels or bears in the yard. I always wonder if these people just like the 'wildlife look' or if they are trying to keep other animals out, kind of using the statues like a scarecrow. And I wonder where you would go to get a statue. I've never seen them for sale anywhere. Then again I'm not out shopping around for them.

And as a native Wisconsinite, I will agree that yes, there is definately a Michigan accent. In fact, I believe people from the UP have a completely different accent, eh?

Maybe the Michigan accent varies by location? My friend who grew up in the Detroit suburbs does not have a noticable accent -- nor do his parents or brother. But what about the UP accent, eh?

I don't recall seeing any cow statues on our most recent trips to WI. Now I have something to look for next time.

This list is hysterical! When we moved to Minnesota, we were talking about our trip from Ohio through "Ewe Claire" and how we wanted to go see WaBASH-a where Grumpy Old Men was filmed. People knew instantly that we weren't from these parts.

Uh, excuse me, the one true beer is Leinenkugels. Those other beers may as well be from Illinois.

                      Another one...

You know that there is NO WAY Leo DeCaprio's character in Titanic fished on Lake Wissota and talked about it in 1912. The dam wasn't even built until 1918.
