LOL. Nick doesn't believe in naming bikes. Spartacus and Flicka are both mine -- that's Flicka in my icon. His bikes are called things like "the blue Cannondale" and "the rain bike".

good and bad for the moment

      Could do without:

-Too poor to buy any presents this year...none. Meanwhile all of the social groups I joined to stave off loneliness are having gift exchanges. I am laying low.
-we’re all sick going on two weeks. Being sick and having to stay up all night hydrating, medicating and sponging kids with high fever really, truly sucks. Better than going to urgent care though.
-realizing that lately the brief times when dh comes home feel more like some guy infringing on my territory than my love coming home. Uh oh.

      Grateful for:

-My kids. I am honored to have these kids. I love who they are and who they are becoming. Wow.
-Had the chance to spend two weeks with my 91 year old, still healthy, still stubborn grandmother. I have a ton of pictures and videos with her and the kids. I had some influence too. Shortly after our visit she did finally consent to getting a hearing aid. Now getting her to wear it….
-Heat is included in our condo fee so I can actually keep the house comfortably warm.

      Happy holidays to all!!

        Suck :
        1. DH has been doing an away rotation and for some reason, for the past three days, DD has been walking in and out of every room in the house, crying, and asking where her daddy went. Talk about heartbreaking.
        2. Applying to residencies and then going to interviews is breaking the bank! We're going to have to live off baked beans and raamen noodles at the rate we're going...
        3. ...And thus have to keep the house too cold and the Christmas gifts to small.

        The Good:
        1. Said away rotation is winding up. DH will be home on Tuesday!
        2. We have come to the realization that there at least six places thus far that we would be happy to be matched at.
        3. I have learned to knit socks that will a) keep my toes warm, and b)serve as Christmas gifts to most on my list
        4. And of course, the most important, all are healthy and happy, the best of all on The Good list.

          What sucks:

          1. It's cold and rainy this week. Cold and snowy, I can handle. :{ Gloomy and miserably rainy? No, thanks.

          2. This is my next-to-last-week of work before starting my maternity leave, and I have lots of loose ends to tie up and no motivation to do it. Seriously, I just don't give a f*@$ so stop asking me. I wish it were next Friday already!

          3. That's it, I can only think of two. I'm in a happy place right now, so please don't want to beat me up.

          What's good:

          1. We've just about finished with all of the baby preparations, we just need a baby now! The anticipation is killing me, I can't wait!!!

          2. DH just found out that the attending he's been working with during this research year has been impressed enough with his work to offer him a potential attending spot once he's finished with his training 4+ years from now. DH would be thrilled at the opportunity, and I would be thrilled to stay.

          3. I know I keep saying it, but this (research) year has been a wonderful experience for us as a couple. We've had so much time together and it's been absolutely amazing. :---

          -Wife of urology attending.
-SAHM to three great kiddos (2 boys, 1 girl!)

            Ick:

Nothing. Without pain, there is no growth. Even my problems are blessings. Now, to get myself to fully embrace this....

            Blessings:

            1. The kids. Sweet baby girl is just about as close to heaven as you can get: Soft, sweet, darling, with a touch of downright onryness. I'm in big trouble with this one. Baby boy rocks my world. I have this picture of him from one of our Friday night raves/ dance jams. He is wearing only a pair of jeans on with his Darth Vader underwear peaking out over the top while giving it is all to the air guitar. This scrawny, blue eyed, toothy grinned kid is jammin it out to Pearl Jam like he is the original rock star. I love his joie de vivre. The funny thing about this picture is that his teacher reported at his conference that "Cade refuses to participate in song or movement". I felt like asking her if she tried Pantera.

            2. I have enough of everything that I need. I have a stedfast husband who dearly loves me, a good job for this time in my life, a warm bed, too much food, and dear friends.

            3. This website.
