  • One year to go!!

My husband just became an R3, so we are now in our FINAL YEAR! It's surprising how much this helps our morale. We're in the fourth month of q4 call and getting stressed to our limits, but are able to handle it better than last year because we don't have to put up with it much longer. I know this isn't much help to everyone who has a long haul ahead, but I just had to comment on how much it helps to feel an end coming. It really does end! Never would've believed it back when Tom was frantically trying to study for Step 1 with a brand-new baby, but we're getting there. Of course this year will still be hard and I get the occaisional despair attack, but the worst of the sting is gone out of it.

But the thing that has helped the most this year - that may be useful to everyone - is that we joined a gym. I got sick of dithering over whether we'd ever get time to use it, and just signed us up. It has made such a difference! We have to scramble to find the time to go, and wedge workouts in at any opportunity, but it's worth it. We're both more relaxed, more energetic (well, slightly), and less depressed about our flabby bodies. That's my helpful thought for the day. Oh, and get house cleaners.

Woohoo Kaaren....good for you! This last year will just fly by! Do you all have any idea of where you would like to go when he is finished with residency?

It is so inspiring to meet a residency survivor! I try not to think about the end because these are precious times, too. But sometimes I find myself dreaming about a day when we will have time to coach a little league team and eat supper together most nights.

Anyway, that is awesome that you make time to work out. Sean and I are supposed to be dieting but somehow find ourselves going out for fish and chips instead. My goal is to run a big race this October. My sad, sorry butt is a long ways from being able to finish the race at a competitive level but I'll finish the blasted thing nonetheless. I do find that working out and being outside grants a lot of much needed perspective.
In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.
