Hi! I am a wife of a PGY2 neurosurgery resident. I work outside the home, but I think I work a lot harder AT home! We have a toddler.

I know neurosurgery has a really miserable reputation in terms of home and personal life, but I guess we're lucky. They work him to the bone, but he loves what he does. Can't really complain (at least not today!).

Wow another neurosurgery wife - that makes the third new one in the last couple of months. WELCOME!

Many of the girls here would say this should be my DH's moto:

My DH is in his last six months of his 3rd year, also loves it - almost every minute of it!

Yeah, brain guys are a different breed, all right. I can't comment on neurologists because I haven't known that many very well, but my experience with NSGs (I'm going to use this abbreviation for "neurosurgeons," if that's OK--spare me the longhand!) has been that they (guys and the few girls that there are) seem to be a combination of That-Brainy-Nerdy-Kid-in-High-School-Who-Was-Captain-of-the-Chess-Team and The-Adrenalin-Junkie-Who'd-Love-to-be-Skydiving. Mix in the necessary ego, a good sense of humor (self-deprecating and otherwise), a 2-inch thick epidermis impervious to verbal acid, and the belief instilled by hazing that sleep is for the weak, and viola!: a NSG is born.

My hubbie did an MD/PhD before going the NSG route: I like to say that he always seeks the longest path of most resistance.

Anyhow, I've been peeking around this website for a while and thought it was time to join. It's nice to be in a place where you're not having to explain what "Q3" means and why it affects your life, or are being told that you're so lucky to be married to a doctor since you are/very shortly will be rich! (WHERE do people get these ideas??!!)
