  • New here from Minnesota (soon to be Ohio)

Hello! I just happened to stumble upon this site by chance, and wish I had found it about 7 years ago. I am married to an EM resident in MN who just accepted an attending position in Ohio. We have a beautiful 16 month old daughter, crazy 2 year old Goldendoodle (name I.V.), and are just waiting for the schedule to slow down, come July.
I work in hospital administration, but plan for DH's graduation dinner to be my (temporary, probably), retirement dinner! It's amazing how putting someone through medical training can burn a person out.
Right now, we're waiting for the "for sale" sign to be posted in front of our house, and keep our fingers crossed that we won't be stuck with two mortgages. But, it sure beats waiting for match day!

Wife to EP, just trying to keep up with my FOUR busy kids!

            Welcome!

We're an EM family as well. DH is finishing up his third year out of residency and we have a 20 month old son. It really is a different world post training....you're almost to the finish line!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes (and Cheri - it's good to hear from you - haven't seen you in a while!). We're off to Columbus - DH signed with The Ohio State University, and is really excited about his job. Just bought a house in Powell, OH and our "for sale" sign goes up on our house today.

I appreciate everyone's feedback about EM being easier once residency is done. I'm just trying to hang on until we get to that point (just a couple more months, right?). DH always talked about wanting to work at a busy county ED. Once he started residency, though, he fell in love with academia. Fortunately, he's at a program with tons of opportunity for research, so he was well received at academic institutions without having done fellowship. The upside is that he'll work fewer clinical shifts, downside being he'll make less money (vs a non-academic job) and that even though EM's shiftwork, he'll always bring research work home with him. I'm sure it will be another adjustment, but the hours will definitely be better!

                      Hi,

We're in MN and Ohio bound too...except Cinci. We're also on the market currently and it is no fun.

I look forward to getting to know you.

DH works at Grant/Riverside in Columbus. We did residency in Columbus also. We are just 45 min out of the city and DH commutes. Powell is a great but busy place to live. Let me know if you need the scoop on anything in Columbus, I'd be happy to help!

We, too, are Columbus-bound. Dh just matched to the peds residency there (OSU).
Congrats on making it to the end!
