  • hi from chicago

    Hi!
I'm glad to join this group and read how others are experiencing med school, residency and beyond. My husband is just starting M4. We have two kids, two dogs and one old and dear cat. I'm technically a stay at home mom, but do a lot of volunteer work and also have my own small (very very small) business - I hope to pursue this more when both my kids are in school (only a year away).

We've enjoyed 3rd year - much better for us than MS1 and MS2 - my husband is so much happier on his feet than with his nose in a book. He's going to be applying to EM (likes to multi-task, fix things, and shows me up doing things around the house - usually enlisting the kids into his "fun" as well... scary for me because I like to put my feet up and read).

I have a spreadsheet of 30+ places for him to apply to - matching up schools for the kids with residency programs is important for us.

    So, hello!

Thanks for all the welcomes. I'm very interested in the website... but also trying to wrap my mind around it being public on the web and also the words sitting out there for years and years into the future. I realize that's why you have the private forums once you've been in for a while. I wonder if even those you might delete after a year or so. I know there's a paper I wrote in graduate school that got posted on the web by my university - I like it - but I wonder if it will just be there forever... I guess I'm kind of shy.

Many of us have hoped the the PD and other head honchos or their spouses would come and see what we REALLY think, but alas, no one but us seems to care.

Post what you feel comfortable posting.

I've been here for 7 years now and really, there are only NINE child neurologists in the Army. Period. I've long since given up any chance for anonymity.

and honestly, there's nothing here that I'd not say to them personally.

and if Gates wants me as a spousal consultant to the military, I am all his.

I'll blame it on the Norwegian Lutheran background. Kind of reserved at times. I wasn't even thinking about PDs - more just the wide wide world (the wide wide world likely does not care what I am up to anyway). I doubt if I have anything to say that would worry PDs or anyone else - just want to connect with other spouses.

Hi and welcome! Post as you feel comfortable. I have always been very hesitant to share personal details on any kind of public forum (and I have very few illusions about how private even the "private" boards on this site are), but I have to say -- after a few years with this group, you come to know them, and they you. I can't help but open up a little bit more now. iMSN has taught me what an online community can be, I hope you like it.

                              Cupcake: What's MIL?

My husband comes from rowdy non-scandinavian stock; his large family thought I was so quiet when they first met me! I guess I was. So, the kids have a little variety in their veins too - definately a good thing.
